Every Generation Needs a God Story!

Matthew 16:18 Jesus said, “Upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

FBC Brunswick was born into existence in 1855 as a little church with a big dream. What was the dream?  To take the gospel to every person in Brunswick and the Golden Isles. The little church became a reality with its first church building located at H and Union Street. The cost to build the church was $2500. Small change in today’s world but to this new church, it was great sacrifice.

Hebrews 13:8 declares, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Today, FBC Brunswick still remains and the dream is just as big. We have grown from the humble beginnings to today averaging 600 in attendance with an annual budget of $1.8 million. We have thriving ministries such as: student, children, and music ministries.  The church has experienced a season of health and growth over the past three years. It would be easy to sit back on our laurels and relax, but we can’t. We still have work to do because, as was true in 1855, every person in Brunswick, Glynn County, and the Golden Isles needs to hear the gospel.

Psalm 145:4 prophesied, “One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.”

FBC Brunswick is built upon the foundation of Christ’s eternal attributes and we are committed to telling the generations about Jesus Christ. So what’s in store for the future?

We believe that God is leading us into a new phase of ministry and one of the areas that we need to address is our facility/facilities.  God has given us a great tool for ministry in our buildings, but it is time to improve and expand the use of our facilities.  We need facilities that work (pragmatically) and speak to the greatness of our God (theological) in order to lead people from where they are to where God wants them to be.

The Facility Vision

It is our desire to renovate the sanctuary to enhance our current worship space and to extend the north side of the sanctuary to improve accessibility into and within our facilities to accommodate present and future growth needs.

The sanctuary renovation will enhance our existing sanctuary beautifully. Our sanctuary has stood the test of time and has served our church and community well. The renovation will allow us to highlight the historical architecture while providing needed updates to the stage, flooring, and seating. It will also address the AVL (audio/visual/lighting) needs of our congregation. We will be able to address the AVL deficiencies in the sanctuary by significantly updating our technology. Enhanced video technology will result in video and worship productions that compliment the excellence of our Sunday morning worship experiences.

The north side extension will consist of a ground level Welcome Center, large and inviting atrium, and classrooms for Senior Adult Bible Study Fellowships. The second level will include the Music Suite.  The extension will improve the arrival sequence allowing first time guests clear and easy access to FBC Brunswick.

Why now?

We need to finish what began in 1855: To take the gospel to every person in Brunswick and the Golden Isles. We fully believe that a building will never save a soul; however, it is a tool to help us facilitate the telling of the Gospel. Since facilities are a means to an end, it can be either a distraction or an encouragement. An unkempt facility can keep some people from coming on-site to hear the life saving message of the Gospel. Or they come onto the campus, but the condition, flow, aesthetics, and lack of signage become distractions and they zone out.  The facilities of FBC Brunswick matter because these things are important to people and there needs to be no hindrances in sharing the Gospel with everyone in Glynn County.

How will we resource the vision?

The total estimated cost for the sanctuary renovation and the north side extension will be no greater than $5,000,000. God has blessed our church financially and we are on track to meet budget.  Because we are debt free and have managed our budget giving and expenditures, we have been able to continue to invest in future building.  The Building Fund presently has over $300,000 and continues to grow through faithful giving. This giving combined with new dollars that will be raised through a Capital Stewardship Campaign (CSC), gives us confidence that we can complete the facility vision. God is always faithful to provide for His vision.

What are the next steps?

1. We ask you to pray about your involvement in this endeavor.

Howard Hendricks said, “Nothing is more profitable than serious thinking, and nothing is more demanding.” Proverbs 13:16 says, “A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t and even brags about it.” Please take time to think and pray about your involvement.

2. We ask that you prepare for the upcoming opportunity.

The Bible teaches us that preparation is part of God’s nature and His plan. Throughout history, He has worked in the lives of people, nations and circumstances to prepare individuals and groups for His opportunities, His purposes and His blessings. When we obey Him, we will be generous and He will be glorified while the needs of others and our giving will be high priorities for our lives

God has blessed FBC Brunswick throughout our history and we believe the best is yet to come. We believe the time to get started is now. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and preparation as “we walk by faith and not by sight.”

2 Corinthians 9:6
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”
